O heiliger Tod, Santisima Muerte.
Totentage in Mexiko
Radio Teatro
Every year around All Souls' Day, the whole of Mexico is transformed into a colorful folk festival. The holy woman Death, Santisima Muerte, then dominates the streets and houses. As a magnificently dressed skeleton, she takes her place on the decorated altars. Music is played everywhere, small skulls made of sugar are offered for sale and the ofrendas, the house altars, are filled with food - the dead are expected here to fortify themselves after their long journey from the realm of the dead. The Días de los Muertos are a joyous celebration. Eva, a doctor from Germany, has also traveled to Mexico. She is looking for distance - just far away, as far away as possible from Germany, where her family lives and where her almost 90-year-old mother has decided to end her life. In Mexico, Eva encounters a completely different way of dealing with death. And she meets Pancho, the ice cream vendor and his very own philosophy of life. With Pancho, she immerses herself in the colorful hustle and bustle of the Days of the Dead in Mexico.
