Wälder der Hoffnung - Ecuador
Selva de Esperanza - Ecuador
The rainforest of Ecuador's Amazon region is home to a remarkable diversity of plant and animal species. The ancestors of Don Otorino, a native of the Kichwa people, lived here for thousands of years without destroying the forests. It was not until oil exploration by foreign companies in the 1980s that the trees began to fall over large areas. Now the rivers are poisoned and the population increasingly uprooted. Don Otorino shows how life in the jungle is possible today without destroying the habitat or the indigenous culture. It is also a highlight to see how Don Otorino opposes the oil companies.

Wälder der Hoffnung - Indonesien
In Indonesia, huge tracts of rainforest have been destroyed in recent decades, particularly in Sumatra and Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of Borneo. Today, the aim is to reforest these areas and create sustainably usable cultivated landscapes. There are several promising examples of this in the Indonesian archipelago. The film follows Anatolius Teng of the Benuaq Dayak tribe, a member of the indigenous people of Kalimantan, and Pak Muhamed Sukaemi, a resin farmer from South Sumatra.
