En Cocodrilo hacia la Modernidad

Radio Documental

Iris Disse accompanied Jiovanny in the realization of his dream for the program "On the crocodile to modernity - Jiovanny's struggle for his vision": an acoustic journey to the other world of the Amazon rainforest.

A luxury lodge in the middle of the Amazon? That sounds like the ruthless greed of an investor who doesn't care about nature or indigenous peoples. But if this luxury lodge is built by the indigenous people themselves, does it belong to them? Jiovanny Rivadeineira, a Kichwa Indian from the Napo River, is pursuing this dream. He has neither money nor knowledge. Impossible, completely crazy, everyone in his village says. But Jiovanny does the impossible. He builds the Napo Wildlife Center, now the most successful luxury jungle lodge in the Amazon basin. Everyone in the village works at the lodge, there is its own infirmary, a school and scholarships for young people who want to study. Paid from the income of the luxury lodge.
